Renaming Tags

The tags that you create should be consistent across instances, and will affect shared search filtering so please consult with the Corporate BrandNext Team before creating editing or deleting any tags. Instead of changing the tag term, a synonym may be more appropriate.  If any assets have the old tag term applied to them, you will need to apply the new tag term to those same assets.  They do not automatically update. Renaming tags involve creating a new tag with the new name then merging it with the old tag. If you simply change the name of a tag, it will not update the assets that have been tagged with the previous name to the new tag name. Merge function is the Best Practice for changing/renaming tag terms.

Follow these steps

This can be done in Classic View

 1. Click on the Tag button that can be found at the top of the green header bar

2. Select the category of the tags in the left navigation bar where the new “renamed” tag will go.

3. Click NEW above the preview pane.

4. In the pop-up window, fill in the Title name.

Be sure to use a capital letter at the beginning of each word.

Special characters cannot be used.

5. Fill in the name of the tag.

No spaces are allowed in this field, so use hyphens in between words if there are multiple words.

The name field must be all lowercase with no special characters.

6. Click Create

7. Click on the tag that you want to rename.

8. Select the MERGE button in the gray bar above the preview pane

This will open a pop-up window.

9. To the right of the “INTO” field, click on the magnifying glass and select the new tag you created.

10. Click OK then Click Merge

When you select Merge, the old tag disappears and new name has replaced it on all of the assets that were tagged.

This may take a few minutes to reindex the asset and be ready for searching.
