The Importance of Metadata

What is Metadata? Metadata is the data stored that gives information about your asset. It is hidden in a layer within the asset and summarizes the basic information about it.

It can be used for various file types including documents, images, layouts, videos, and spreadsheets. For most people, the metadata is invisible. In BrandNExt, you can see it under the details tab.

When users download an original asset from BrandNext, the metadata is stored as XMP and is attached to the asset. The XMP then travels with the asset for future users.

*Please note that some social media apps and resaving an asset as a .PNG will strip out the XMP. in order to reduce the file size.

Why is metadata so important? We can’t stress enough how important good metadata is when uploading assets to BrandNext. Good metadata helps global users find what they are looking for faster by returning only the most accurate results for their search.

Good metadata doesn’t mean MORE metadata, it just means the most accurate metadata.

For instance, when inserting this image onto this webpage, it pulled in the Title and description from BrandNext. (Description was added as a caption)
